Jimmy graduated from Hanahan High School in 1965 and is a product of Berkeley County School District. His son, Trey Hinson is a graduate of Stratford High School. Jimmy is a grandfather to Caroline who is 7 years old and James who is 3 years old.

Jimmy is a proven leader and past School Board Member with the Berkeley County School District. While stepping down in 2018 to become a Summary Court Judge for Berkeley County, the community has once again called for Jimmy's keen eye to detail and integral knowledge to help Berkeley County once again excel.
